Whiplash
Biography
Group founded in Passaic (New Jersey) in 1984 by Tony Portaro, Tony Bono and Tony Scaglione, Whiplash released Power&Pain at Roadrunner a year later, considered a thrash metal classic in the same way as Bonded By Blood by Exodus. The band will release two additional albums until 1990 with a new drummer, Joe Cangelosi (future Kreator), Tony Scaglione having ceded to Slayer's sirens, as well as a singer, Glenn Hansen, for the release of Insult to Injury.
After a six-year split, Whiplash reformed around Scaglione and Portaro, but with a largely redesigned team with a new singer, Rob Gonzo, a new bass player, James Preziosa and a second guitarist, Warren Condoti. Short-lived configuration because, after the release of Cult of One , the band returned to the quartet formula following the departure of Rob Gonzo, Scaglione being replaced by Bob Candella.
1998 sees the return of the first Whiplash formation for the release of the well-named Thrashback . But the group will split in the year and Tony Bono will die from a heart attack in 2002. In 2009, the band announced its return with Tony Portaro as the only survivor of the original band, and released Unborn Again the same year, the band's latest studio album. The band will be on the Fall of Summer poster on September 2-3, 2016.
