Until Death Overtakes Me

The story of Until Death Overtakes Me begins in Belgium in May 1999 around Stijn Van Cauter, founder of the black band Macabre Destiny. This one man band stagnates, stuck in various experiments, and encounters almost no success. But quickly, the "training" developed with the arrival in 2000 of Elke De Smedt on acoustic guitar and keyboards, followed by Jo Renette at the position of guitarist, bassist and also keyboardist, as well as Pamela Turrell with flutte and machines; UDOM is thus born, the name being, for the anecdote, taken from the song Black God of the cults My Dying Bride . The following year, after two demos, Symphony I - Deep Dark Red and Symphony II - Absence of Life, the group found its way and claimed, working in a high-quality doom, very oppressive and heavy like a Pantheist, slipping towards the atmosphere, even approaching the drone doom at once. But stability is lacking, since Pamela, Joe and Elke are leaving the band. In addition, Stijn Van Cauter is involved in a myriad of side projects (I Dream No More, Fall Of The Grey-Winged One, The Ethereal, Organium, Dreams Of Dying Stars ...) which makes for the worst for the future of UDOM, all the more so as he joins his compatriots of Pantheist as a live musician (including a tour with UDOM all the same and Skepticism) and sings on Envy Us, from Amartia album. December 2002 finally saw the release of the first album of UDOM, Prelude to monolith, with Stijn Van Cauter becoming the only master on board. Then comes another period where the group is left aside for the benefit of the many side projects of its creator, until 2005 with the release of Symphony III – Monolith .
