Underworld Uk
Biography
Karl Hyde - singing, guitar Rick Smith - keyboards, platinums, effects
Hyde and Smith began their collaboration in the early 1980s as they studied at Cardiff Art College. Initially titled The Screen Gemz , then Freur , the acolytes recorded two albums before separating in 1986. The duo reconnects under the surname of Underworld but folds again after releasing two albums, Underneath the Radar and Change the Weather. After a five-year break dedicated to design and art activities (Tomato), Hyde and Smith meet and re-engage the Underworld machine without having recruited dj Darren Emerson. Dubnobasswithmyheadman is the first album of a new era, more accessible than the band has ever done before. The success did not fail with Second Toughest in the Enfants , the next album that enjoyed the buzz around the movie Trainspotting whose B.O. recaptures two tracks from the band, "Born Slippy" and "Dark & Long". In 1999, Underworld recorded his third album, Lots Fish , from the expression of a cajun fisher sampled for the title "Jumbo". The ensuing tour is such a success that it is immortalized on the live cd Everything, Everything. Emerson left the band shortly after, leaving Hyde and Smith in charge of A Hundred Days Off. We must wait until 2007 for Underworld to talk about him again with the release of Oblivion with Bells , the latest album in date followed by a major European tour in 2008.
