Biography
Samael was born in 1987 thanks to Vorphalack (guitar and singing), Xytras (battery and keyboard) and Masmiseim (bass), they then evolve in a fairly basic black metal, influenced by groups such as Venom or Celtic Frost. As early as 1987, the Swiss recorded their first demo, Into The Infernal Storm Of Evil , and followed the following year with Macabre Operetta and Medieval Prophecy , EPs self-produced which would make it impossible for them to sign at Osmose Records. They released their first album, Worship Him , in 1991. The lack of originality and the mediocrity of production will not allow them to make themselves known thanks to this first opus. A year later, the band released Blood Ritual and this time the success is at the rendezvous, their music is more original thanks to the contribution of the keyboard and a guitar better worked. They then signed with Century Media and recorded Ceremony Of Opposites in 1994. This third album marks Samael's style change, leaving aside the basic black metal from their beginning for a much more atmospheric music that will be confirmed with Passage in 1996, no doubt one of the band's most original records. In 1999, the band gained a second guitarist in the person of Kaos with whom they will record Eternal. It was only five years later that Reign Of Light, their sixth album, was released.
