Rush
Biography
Geddy Lee - bass, song Neil Peart - drums Alex Lifeson - guitar
Hardly known on this side of the continent (only one concert in France in thirty years), Rush enjoys the status of living legend in North America. The band formed in Toronto in the fall of 1968 around Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and John Rutsey. In his first game, the trio played a heavy rock strongly influenced by Cream or Led Zeppelin, which he distilled in all clubs in the city before releasing his first single, "Not Fade Away", taken over by Buddy Holly in 1973. A year later Rutsey was born the first eponymous album after which Rutsey packed his bags. It is replaced by Neil Peart who, in addition to insuring the battery, will also be responsible for the texts that take on a more futuristic turn. In 1975, two albums were released: Fly by Night and Caress of Steel, but it was with 2112 that Rush found his way and took off. Based on Ayn Rand's writings, this concept album pushes Canadians into platinum for the first time. Success will not be denied afterwards. Farewell to Kings is in the top 40 in the states and Britain. "The Spirit of Radio", an excerpt from Permament Waves , is becoming a must, as is "Tom Sawyer" (Moving Pictures ). Rush's popularity is growing at a phenomenal speed, the highlight of which is certainly Signals in 1982. After Power Windows, Canadian music clumps somewhat into the volutes of synths (Hold Your Fire, Presto). In the early 1990s Rush returned to the style of the first albums on Roll the Bones and Counterparts. As a result, the group returned to the top of the US charts. In 1996, Test For Echo was followed by a summer tour. But the dark days come. Neil Peart suddenly loses his daughter and wife diving Rush into a torpor from which he will only emerge five years later. Lee takes the opportunity to try solo with his project My Favorite Headache . In 2002, Vapor Trails announced the return of the Canadian trio, which will also serve as a support for the tour on its thirtieth anniversary, immortalized on DVD Rush in Rio. Rush will resume its cruise rhythm with a new album, Snakes&Arrows, which will be released in 2007.
