Primordial
Biography
Primordial trained in 1991 in Skerries, Ireland. Black metal band created by bassist Pól MacAmlaigh and guitarist Ciáran MacUiliam (who used to play thrash and death covers under the name Forsaken), Primordial received the support of singer Alan Averill aka Nemtheanga (also a member of the excellent Void of Silence formed in 1999) shortly afterwards and turned towards a music close to Bathory, Celtic Frost and Candlemass. Their demo Dark Romanticism was released in 1993 and the band signed the following year at Cacophononous Records (Cradle of Filth, Bal Sagoth etc.) for their first album Imrama . The band will continue to refine its melodic and epic style afterwards, starting with the album A Journey's End in 1998, amalgamating folk roots, Celtic and obviously black metal. After two new releases, Spirit the Earth Aflame and Storm Before Calm , their fifth opus The Gathering Wilderness proved stronger and even blacker by winning the high spheres of metal magazines in 2005. The band even played in the USA with Moonsorrow the following year. In 2007 their new offering appeared, To The Nameless Dead , an excellent record showing their mastery of lyrical atmospheres.
