Pink Floyd
Biography
Pink Floyd is initially the association of Syd Barrett, Roger Waters, Nick Mason and Rick Wright. The latter soon released their first album The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn. Barrett, completely drugged, is a real genius but unfortunately will leave the band to play solo then to integrate a psychiatric space. The tone is set. Dave Gilmour replaced him, and the group's new architect became Waters. Always very psyched albums are at the key: A Saucerful Of Secrets, Ummagumma, Atom Heart Mother, or Meddle. Then in 1973, the band became definitely mythical with the well-known Dark Side Of The Moon, which has new jazzy hints and will remain one of the biggest sales of all time. Then, two masterpieces follow again, gradually synthesizing to the ultimate sound of everything they have done: Wish You Were Here and Animals. However, the group unfortunately does not stop there. Drugs and success get waters drunk, which is definitely taking over with The Wall (double conceptual album that will lead to a movie by Alan Parker) and The Final Cut . They're good albums, but they don't have a real psyched atmosphere like they used to be. Waters decided to leave the adventure and launched a lawsuit against other members to forbid them to use the mythical name. As a result, the other members still lay two albums, A Momentary Lapse Of Reason and The Bell Division, which were truly populist and emotionally septicated. Then add the best of useless, live and evergreen reissues of Dark Side Of The Moon. The divine impetus given to this awesome group has always been the psychedelic inspiration of one of its members. When it evaporated, Pink Floyd no longer existed.
