Of Montreal
Biography
Of Montreal (original, as its name suggests, by Georgie, in the United States) is primarily the work of a somewhat dull man, Kevin Barnes, who writes and composes most of the texts and melodies. His adventure began in 1997 when the band was quickly spotted by the label Elephant 6 (which also counts in his ranks A Hawk And A Hacksaw and Elf Power - to which one owes a record in collaboration with Vic Chestnutt , chroniqued on our pages ) thanks to his musical eclecticism. Destructing pop as we know it with joy, Of Montreal adds various sound experiments at the same time as a plethora of different styles are incorporated (funk, krautrock, reggae, electro). The pieces are searched, not hesitating to borrow several rhythms or tone within the same composition for a result often unpredictable.
It is not necessarily obvious to find a benchmark in the band's discography, as Of Montreal is known to diversify its albums to the maximum, even if the most recent releases are more accessible. The 2000s also marked the group's public recognition with Satanic Panic in The Attic (2004) and The Sunlandic Twins (2005) Nevertheless, Kevin Barnes' exuberance is still based on high-perched lyrical lyrics and catchy sounds that lead to even dancing - even in the depths of his depression, in 2007, when Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer came out? .
