Nine Inch Nails
Biography
Nine Inch Nails was born in 1987, at the initiative of a very young musician, Trent Reznor, 22 years old at the time. Two years after its birth the band released its first album Pretty Hate Machine. Immediately, the tone was set on the creator's control over his war machine: "Nine Inch Nails is Trent Reznor". The album has little success at first, but the band is turning and making itself known. In 1991 it was the explosion, the record finally sold very well (multiplatinum in the United States) allowing NIN to invade the world with an already very special sound, where the guitars next with very present keyboards. The battle between Trent Reznor (leader of the band) and his label, TVT Records, rages as a result of this success, the artist wishing to retain his musical identity. And it is in this context that comes out the superpowerful Broken true concentrated violence like NIN will never produce any more. Reznor subsequently founded Nothing Record (which, among other things, signed Marilyn Manson that Reznor launched and produced in his early days). The Downward Spiral was released in 1994. Considered by many as the best album by Nine Inch Nails, carried by his singles Closer and March Of The Pigs , sublimated by Hurt , he ends up building the band's reputation in the world. In 1999 a new album was released (even though NIN is productive and releases an excellent remix album of Further Down The Spiral and some EPs and singles between 1994 and 1999). The Fragile is a double album, and here again critics greet the brilliance of NIN, and Reznor, "the sick rock man" (Le Monde). In 2002 the band released its first live album, And All That Could Have Been (recorded during Fragility v2.0 in 2000, best tour of the year according to Rolling Stone magazine). In 2004, NIN composed his new album, on which Dave Grohl was a guest (decidably everywhere, ex Nirvana , Foo Fighters , ex Queens Of The Stone Age, Probot ), entitled Bleed Through. The album finally released in 2005 under the name of With Teeth, it receives a good critical and public reception, although the sound is rather softened. It should be noted that Jordie White (aka Twiggy Ramirez), former bassist of Marilyn Manson, and currently a member of A Perfect Circle, joined the band for the ensuing tour. In 2007, the band returned with a conceptual album titled Year Zero , developing for the occasion an innovative cybernetic track game, encouraging fans to find songs before their official release. After leaving his record company and announcing an end to the rock form of Nine Inch Nails Trent Reznor returns in early 2008. Like Radiohead (who he criticises all the same) he launches Ghosts, an electronic album sold via the net and without record label and takes advantage of it to announce a scenic return, as well as the free release of The Slip. Both albums are also licensed for free, meaning they can be legally shared on the net. In August 2013, Hesitation Marks marked NIN's return on a major, Columbia. Once again, the disc makes it talk about itself, thanks in particular to its audiophile mix, created by Reznor to stand out from all recent releases, marked by the "Loudness War". 2016 is the year of two important events in the group's career. First of all, composer Atticus Ross is officially included in the band. Then, the release of the EP Not The Actual Events on the label of Reznor, The Null Corporation. In 2017, it was the turn of a second EP, Add Violence, to see the same label again.
