Mournful Congregation

Mournful Congregation is a cult and mysterious formation within the Doom World scene. It is indeed very difficult to find concrete information about the group, and everything that has been recovered about it cannot be taken as totally acquired. The band was founded in Lexton (Australia) in 1993 by former Chalice and Stargazer, Damond Good (song / bass / guitar), Adrian Bickle (battery) and Darren McLennan (guitar). After 4 demos, Weeping (1994), An Epic Dream of Desire (1995), Practice Sessions (1996) and Tears from a Grieving Heart (1999) as well as inevitable line-up changes, the band signed a deal with Weird Truth Productions and recorded a split with Worship in 2001. The following year, almost all the songs composed by the band since its beginnings appeared in the form of a double CD, The Dawning of Mournful Hymns, a colossal work of more than two hours. The band then recorded in 2004 a split with Stabat Mater, and it was the following year that The Monad of Creation released an album consisting of songs recorded between 1994 and 2003. Mournful Congregation is a separate entity in the Doom scene, the band complacent in its mystery aura, the term "group" being somewhat inappropriate since its members do not consider themselves as musicians but as part of a "assembly", "The Mourful Congregation", with its own rules, beliefs and ideology. They regard their music as the expression of the essence of their assembly and describe it as "True Doom", perhaps rightly since some consider their records as the culmination of the Funeral Doom, masterpieces to be stored alongside the work of Thergothon or Skepticism.
