Mägo de Oz
Biography
Line up : - Txus Di Fellatio (battery) - José Andrëa (chant) - Carlos Prieto 'Mohamed' (violin) - Carlitos (solo guitar) - Frank (guitar) - Jorge Salán (solo guitar) - Pedro Díaz 'Peri' (bass) - Fernando Ponce de León (crossing flute, tin whistle, bagpipe) - Sergio Cisneros 'Kiskilla' (claviers, piano, accordion) Mägo De Oz was created in 1989 in Madrid. The line-up was gradually formed, but the Celtic orientations appeared very early, with the integration of a violin and a flute. In 1992, the band was the finalist of the springboard rock Villa de Madrid. The first eponymous album is released two years later, and success is on track. The formation changed in 1996, with the arrival of José, the current singer. That same year, the band released its second album, an opera-rock named Jesús de Chamberí . The record is followed by an important tour in Spain which greatly increases the popularity of the band. The third album, La Leyenda de La Mancha , with the theme Cervantes and Don Quixote , was released in 1998. Mägo de Oz then took part in big festivals, with bands like Stratovarius or Angra. Under the pressure of the fans, in 1999 the band released its first album in an improved version. It will be followed a few months later by the double album Finisterra , considered by the band as its best and certainly the most complete. It is also the most sold album to date: the album quickly becomes a gold disc, then a platinum disc. A double live album was released in 2002, titled Folkergeist . The next album, Gaia , was released in 2003. With a darker theme (environmental problems), the band loses some energy, and its music becomes less festive, more melancholy. The keyboards take more important to the detriment of the guitars, the band is closer to a progressive rock style. This record is the first of a trilogy, whose second volume, Gaia II - La Voz Dormida , came out two years later. In 2004 Belfast was released , followed in 2005 by a new double live Madrid - Las Ventas . It was at the end of 2007 that the band returned with an eighth studio album, called La Ciudad de los Arboles .
