Biography
Korpiklaani , which means "clan de la forêt" in Finnish is the continuity of the group Shaman which existed from 1993 to 2003 and released two albums under this surname. The band wishing to move towards traditional folk music with an advantage rooted in Metal, two of these former members, Samu Ruotsalainen (Battery - Finntroll , Shape Of Despair ) and Jonne Järvelä (Guitare / Chant) recruited new musicians to complete the line-up: Cane (Guitare), Toni Honkanen (Guitare), Ali Määttä (Percussion), Arto Tissari (Basse) and Hittavainen (Flûtes / Violin / Cornemuse / Jouhikko). The same year, the first album, Spirit Of The Forest, was released by Napalm Records. Korpiklaani talks in his pieces about nature, Finnish legends, women and alcohol. At the end of 2003, Samu decided to focus on his career with Finntroll and Shape Of Despair and was replaced by Matson. The following year Juho Kauppinen (Accordion) joined the combo to record the second album, Voice Of Wilderness , which appeared in 2005. Following this album Arto, Toni and Ali leave Korpiklaani , but only Jarkko Aaltonen joins them as bassist. With a line-up finally stable, Korpiklaani's career is launched on track. The Finnish regularly release one record a year by not changing the formula that made their success by an inch.
