Biography
KMFDM (Kein Mehrheit Für Die Mitleid – No majority for pity) is one of the essential pillars of industrial music, with Ministry and a little later with Nine Inch Nails. It is also regularly quoted at the electro level with Kraftwerk and Front 242. This group was formed in Paris in 1984 by two Germans, Sascha Konietzko and Udo Sturm. A first album, Opium, was released the same year.
Shortly thereafter Storm left the band and launched the waltz of the musicians who would succeed each other over the years around Konietzko, the real boss of KMFDM. The new line-up wins the USA and produces several other albums while turning as much as possible, notably with Ministry . Success is growing and their underground will cannot prevent the recurring single "A Drug Against War" on MTV. Konietzko and his band, among which Tim Skold, also a multi-instrumentalist and later a member of Marilyn Manson , chain productions at a frantic pace in the 1990s with one album per year. They also participate in many original film, cartoon and video games.
After the release of Adios in 1999, KMFDM splints for a short time, the time for Konietzko to start with Tim Skold the parallel and totally different project... MDFMK , which will release a single eponymous album. Meanwhile, the group's image takes a blow with the Columbine massacre, one of the killers being a fan of KMFDM. The reformation took place in 2002 and the frontman took the opportunity to relaunch his own KMFDM Records label, remaining true to his DIY philosophy.
Today, KMFDM regularly continues to feed its plethoric discography, with a more or less stabilized line-up. 2009 is the year of the 25th anniversary and sees the arrival of two almost simultaneous releases: Blitz and Skold vs. KMFDM, symbolizing the collaboration with the musician who received his Marilyn Manson release voucher.
