Hypocrisy
Biography
Peter Tägtgren founded Seditious solo project in 1990 in his hometown of Stockholm, quickly renamed Hypocrisy. Back from a trip to Florida where the death scene of Morbid Angel , Obituary , Death and Deicide particularly impressed him, he wants to create in Sweden a brutal group capable of competing. He wrote and composed during 1991 and managed to surround himself with Jonas Osterberg on guitar, Mikael Hedlund on bass, Lars Szöke behind the drums and Magnus "Masse" Broberg on singing. In 1992, their first album Penetralia appeared in the purest death style with many satanist and anti-Christian verses, which their second album Osculum Obscenum confirmed the following year. For the occasion, the band signed with Nuclear Blast who would never leave them again.
With the departure of Jonas and "Mass" that we find today in the black metal band Dark Funeral, the band turns into a power trio, Tägtgren grabbing the microphone in addition to his guitar. As early as 1994, The Fourth Dimension introduced the Hypocrisy style of haunted melodies, dark and tortured atmospheres, and air guitars, sometimes very rocky, that contrast with blasts of always very aggressive music. In 1996, Abducted , with its fabulous production and sound, was enriched with unusual themes between government conspiracy and UFO, giving free rein to an alarming climate. At the same time, the band recorded two black metal albums under the name The Abyss . In 1997, The Final Chapter, still caught between ultra-fast death and melancholic mid-tempos, announced according to its leader the end of Hypocrisy. Peter Tägtgren, the owner of the studio Abyss for years, seems to be engaged in other production and recording routes, notably within his group of electric industrial Bread.
But, the pressure from the audience is too strong and the band is back in strength with the live Hypocrisy Destroys Wacken in 1998, followed by a fantastic new album soberly titled Hypocrisy in 1999, which multiplies atmospheric passages rich in keyboards and guitars developing complex structures, with work on voices allowing the band to reach previously unknown spheres. In 2000, the brutal Into The Abyss , as well as Catch 22 in 2002 and The Arrival in 2004, two records that many will find disappointing and over-produced. In 2005, Hypocrisy released the album Virus, which is unanimously one of the band's greatest successes. After the release of this album, guitarist Andreas Holma left the band, he was replaced by Klas Ideberg by Darkane. In 2009 A Taste Of Extreme Divinity , Tägtgren again invites his compare Denis Goria, photographer of the latest album of Pain , to work with him on the visual of the album. The latest opus, End Of Disclosure, was released in 2013.
