Biography
Alexander "Alex" Krapanos: singer/guitarist Nicholas "Nick" McCarthy: guitarist/clavier/backing vocals Robert "Bob" Hardy: bassist Paul Thomson: drummer Franz Ferdinand , it's the story of four Glasgow guys that nothing pre-destined to music. A student at Glasgow School of Art, Bob met Alex in 2001 in the 13th Note Cafe. The latter persuades him to learn to play bass, and at the same time to form a band. Both meet for some time after Nick, pianist of formation who will play the role of drummer in the beginning of the band until the arrival of Paul, former drummer of Yummy Fur. Now in full, the Franz Ferdinands begin the rehearsals in a warehouse of all around Gorbals, which they will call "The Castle" (always used today for rehearsals). It is in this place that they will make their first concerts, and so will be noticed by the young people of the region (and the police). At the end of 2002, the band recorded its first EP, Darts of Pleasure , and intended to distribute it by its own means, but with word of mouth helping, the Franz Ferdinands were noticed by Laurence Bell, president of Domino Records, and signed a contract with the band in summer 2003. For the rest of the year, the band will shoot with Interpol or Hot Hot Heat, and then in early 2004, released its first single, which will become a planetary tube: Take Me Out. In February 2004 the band finally released their first eponymous album, Franz Ferdinand , and will follow world tours and prizes (including Mercury Prize). In October 2005, you could have it so much better ...With Franz Ferdinand, who is directly at the top of the overseas sales, as well as at the tenth of the American market.
