Entombed
Biography
Entombed is one of the major Swedish death metal bands, except the Swedish death group. In 1987, Nicke Anderson (battery) and Alex Hellid (guitar) formed Nihilist , later joined by LG Petrov on singing, and Johnny Endlund on bass. The band, probably the first death band from Sweden, recorded some demos that are now raised to the rank of cult. Nihilist will lay the foundation for Swedish death: a death much heavier and less technical than his American counterpart. In 1989, the group splits following disputes with Johnny Hedlund who will form Unleashed , the other major Swedish group. What remains of Nihilist becomes Entombed.
In 1990, after a demo, Entombed released his first album Left Hand Path, which had the effect of a bomb in the world of death metal: Europe has a new representative on the world death scene (a role that was held at the time by our forgotten French from Mutilated). The album is one of those that will define the sound of Swedish death metal: heavy, caverous and powerful. The group undergoes numerous line-up changes, moving from bassist to bassist. In 1991, shortly before the recording of the second album Clandestine, LG Petrov was fired from the band, and Nicke will sing on this album.
In 1993, after other line-up problems, Wolverine Blues was finally released. The album marks a total change of style: finished the death metal old school of the beginnings, Entombed has just invented a new genre: death'n'roll, a mixture of death metal and hard rock dipping groove. This is the beginning of chaos. Entombed will waltz from label to label and line-up to line-up, all in the midst of endless tours.
In 1997, after finally finding a suitable label (and the return of LG Petrov to singing), Entombed released To Ride, Shoot Straight And Speak The Truth. Soon after, Nicke, a drummer to do everything, will unfortunately leave the band. This will lead to a decline of interest for Entombed, the media abandoning them, and fans regretting the first hour.
In 2000 Uprising came out, which led the group to claim its old Swedish number one position. Entombed has a new image, harder, and flirting with satanism. The Swedishs started to work hard to get their place back and quickly released three records: Morning Star in 2001 (with which they returned to their brutal old death metal), Son Of Satans Praise The Lord , album covers, in 2002, and Inferno in 2003, condensing all the band's periods.
Today, Entombed no longer attracts crowds, and is shunned by the media. Recently, Uffe Cederlund, guitarist since Left Hand Path, left the band. Only a live album was delivered recently. The remaining fans hope for a renewed interest in the band, which really do not deserve to be forgotten. However, trouble continues, as at the time of the release of EP When In Sodom and Serpent Saints, Entombed records the departure of the replacement drummer Peter Stjärvind and his bassist Jörgen Sandström. It remains to be seen how survivors LG Petrov, Alex Hellid and Nico Elgstrand will react in the future. Stuper in 2014, LG Petrov leaves the ship but wishes to continue the adventure, so for legal reasons it renames the Entombed A.D formation.
