Biography

Enslaved formed in June 1991 around Ivar Bjornson and Grutle Kjellson, respectively, aged 13 and 17 at the time. The name is taken from the song Enslaved Is Rot, from a demo of Immortal. The two musicians are currently the only survivors of the original line-up, a trio with Trym Torson on drums. Enslaved's premisces appeared when the duo was still in a Death Metal band named Phobia and they decided to move towards a more Black sound. Yet, far from being a Mayhem erzatz , Beherit or Darkthrone , even though their first sounds turn to a Black Metal Viking and melodic, the Norwegians are moving towards a more Rock and Progressive sound, constantly evolving over their albums. The latest Norwegian album is In Times, which is a great success because of its content that oscillates in the brutality of the Black and the much sought after melodies that are sometimes close to a stunning Rock feeling.
