Black Tusk
Biography
Black Tusk is a band originally from Savannah, Georgia, like their compatriots from Kylesa and Baroness, whose musical approach they take a bit the same way by mixing Sludge, Stoner-Metal and Punk-Hardcore. The band formed in 2005 after the split of the former Crust and Punk formations of Andrew Fidler (Guitare / Chant), Jonathan Athon (Basse / Chant) and James May (Battery / Chant). The musicians living on the same street, the rehearsals are numerous and they soon release a first EP, When Kingdoms Fall. A second EP, The Fallen Kingdom , appeared in 2007, followed by the first album: Passage Through Purgatory at Hyperrealist. Black Tusk then toured with Weedeater , Pentagram and Eyehategod and gradually focused attention on him. A few splits with The Holy Mountain, Fight Amp and ASG are also released in 2009. It only takes a signature at Relapse Records in 2010 to make the band really talk about their second album, Taste The Sin, followed just a year later by a new effort called Set The Dial. In 2013 a third EP Vulture's Eye was released. On November 9, 2014, while the band was recording their 4th LP, Jonathan Athon died brutally following a road accident. Quickly, decision is made to continue the adventure to honor the memory of the missing brother of weapon. So Corey Barhorst, an old acquaintance of the band and ex-Kylessa, is now playing bass. On January 29, 2016 Pillars of Ashes , recorded with Joel Grind by Toxic Holocaust, finally released a return to the raw sounds of the group's origins.
