Behemoth
Biography
In 1991, in Gdańsk, Poland, the 16-year-old Adam Michal Darski decided to set up a Black-Metal band. He gives him the name of Behemoth , and s'adjudges the nickname of Nergal as the stage name. He surrounds Baal (Damnation, Hell-Born) with drums and Desecrator with second guitarist. The line-up will change several times, however, with Nergal being the only original member of Behemoth. From 1991 to 1993, the group produced three demos. Their first ep, released in 1994, was titled And The Forests Dream Eternally and in 1995, Behemoth released Sventevith (Storming Near The Baltic), their first album. For this opus, Nergal records all guitar and bass scores, in addition to the song. The musical orientation of the album clearly sounds Black-Metal inspired by the Norwegian scene. In January 1996, the band released its second album, Grom . Like his predecessor, the album sounds Black-Metal, but some tracks are embellished with a few touches of acoustic guitar and female voices. In 1997 a first turning point marked the history of the group because Ball left the ship. He was then replaced by Zbigniew Robert Promiński, aka Inferno. It brings the group a new power, thanks in particular to a technicality and a high speed of execution behind its drums. The band then began to improve and modernize its musical style. The topics covered in Nergal's texts will also progress. The pagan lyrics, unique to Black-Metal, are gradually abandoned and the albums take on a more conceptual sense, but always oriented against Christianity and anti-religion. The result fell in 1997, first with theep Bewitching The Pomerania, then in 1998 with their third album, Pandemonic Incantations. However, the band is still looking for themselves and the album is being squandered by the media, as its promotion is sloppy. Behemoth signed a contract with the Italian label Avantgarde Music. In the studio, they put all their assets on the table and eventually merged Black-Metal and Death-Metal on Satanica in 1999. It was from this period that Behemoth found his own musical identity and turned alongside Deicide and Satyricon. After some problems with their old label and line-up changes, the band released its fifth effort, Thelema.6 , in the year 2000. This is the first time the group has ranked in Polish charts. In 2002, Zos Kia Cultus (Here And Beyond) was also a success in making tours in Norway and then in the USA. May 2004, Behemoth entered the studio accompanied two new members, Orion ( Vesania ) on bass and Seth ( Nomad ), in second guitarist in addition to Karl Sanders ( Nile ), invited for the occasion. In October, the album Demigod was completed. The themes discussed fit perfectly with the style of Nile , since it is a question of mythology of the Middle East and we discover there an ultra-technical album, brutal and without concessions giving them a world renown. After numerous tours, the band produced The Apostasy in 2007, surrounded by two guests, pianist Leszek Mozdzer and singer Warrel Dane ( Nevermore , Sanctuary ), and the album was once again extremely technical and violent and then climbed into the charts very quickly. In 2008, following the European Apostasy tour, Behemoth's first official live album was released. Recorded in Paris, the album At The Arena Ov Aion: Live Apostasy contains the entire Parisian set and two bonus songs. In 2009, the band began recording Evangelion, again pushing their technical limits. It became a gold record in Poland and entered the charts of several European countries and North America. Behemoth takes part in the Mayhem Festival in the United States, alongside Slayer, Marilyn Manson, Trivium, Bullet For My Valentine and Cannibal Corpse. The group will then tour Europe and the world at a very fast pace. Never in their entire career will they have been as acclaimed as during 2009 and 2010. Unfortunately, in August 2010, just after a series of shows in their home country, the leader Nergal was taken urgently to hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with a fairly advanced leukemia. Through their official website, Behemoth then appeals to potential bone marrow donors, as the musician needs a transplant. Nergal is therefore obliged to abandon the music for several months, then the band enters a forced and indeterminate pause. It was during this dark period that a set entitled Evangelia Heretika was born in November 2010, certified platinum in Poland four days after its release. After multiple treatments and finally a bone marrow transplant, Nergal started playing guitar again and finally came back on stage for the first time on May 6, 2011, where he was invited on stage by Carl McCoy of Fields Of The Nephilim. A few days later Behemoth prepared a Polish mini tour and then returned to rehearsal. After approaching death, Nergal feels even more determined than ever to get back to work. Recently, he announced that a new album is scheduled for 2012. In an April 18, 2012 interview with Blabbermouth, Nergal explains the possibility of a release of the next album in 2013. The band plans to play at the Mayhem Festival , with Amon Amarth , Rob Zombie , Mastodon , Children of Bodom and others , but is however forced to cancel because the drummer of the Inferno group has fallen ill and he needs an appendectomy. On May 30, 2013, Behemoth announced the title of his album, The Satanist, which was released on February 5, 2014.
