Art Zoyd
Biography
Founded in 1969 in Valenciennes, the band first released a progressive rock influenced by Zappa. Unfortunately, after a single 45T Sangria, the group split up until 1971, when the arrival of G. Hourbette and T. Zaboitzeff reformed the group. The musicians leave the rock to focus on a more atypical ensemble: 2 violins, a bass and a trumpet. The year 1976 saw the release of Art Zoyd's first LP, giving the band the chance to tour with Magma across France. In 1978, they joined the collective Rock In Opposition (Univers Zero , Fred Frith , ...) From 1980 to 1984, the band toured all over Europe under the label "Art Rock". During this period, choreographer Roland Petit ordered a ballet: The Marriage of Heaven and Hell. This show will be recaptured throughout France by the band, allowing it to offer a new vision of more diverse music, mixing as many instruments as possible (electrics, voices, tapes, ...). The band continues to deliver its music in the form of film music (Nosferatu in 1988, Faust in 1993, Häxan in 1995,...), combining music and visuals during their numerous performances. Unfortunately, in 1997, T. Zaboitzeff left the group. The band, however, is associated with the Lille National Orchestra for the Dangerous Visions project. In 2000, Art Zoyd launched the Flight Experiences project. The songs are first created on stage and then recorded in studio with the help of Music News musicians. 2001, Art Zoyd revives in film music with Metropolis (by Fritz Lang) on the occasion of the release of the restored version of the film. This creation allows the introduction of Kasper T. Toeplitz into the training. The group is increasingly engaged in musical research In 2004, Art Zoyd launched the first robot operetta: Armageddon, with the help of a robotist and Musique Nouvelles. Two years later, the electronic oratorio Le Champ des Larmes followed, mixing music and video.
2007 to 2009 will be very rich years for Art Zoyd , with two giant pyrotechnic concerts in Valenciennes, a dramatic fantasy intertwining past and future through video and instruments (Eyecatcher – Man on camera), then the creation of La Chute de la Maison Usher and finally an opera KAIRO, based on Kiyoshi Kurosawa's novel.
