Angra
Biography
Angra is a group of Power Metal Progressive from São Paulo, Brazil. It was formed in 1991 by André Matos (chant, ex-Viper), Rafael Bittencourt (guitar), Kiko Loureiro (guitar) and Luis Mariutti (bass). The album Angels Cry was released in 1993, recorded with the session drummer Alex Holzwarth ( Rhapsody Of Fire) before Ricardo Confessori's arrival in this post, and was well received by critics. It was with Holy Land in 1996, conceptual album on the history of Brazil, that Angra truly pierced, with a sound between Heavy/Speed, Prog, Sympho and local influences. A third album followed, Fireworks, which, despite the participation of a real orchestra, marked a more conventional Heavy Metal approach. In 2000, Angra lost three-fifths of its members, who left to form the Shaman group. Only the two guitarists remain, who then recruit Felipe Andreoli (bass), Aquiles Priester (Paul Di'Anno, drums) and Edu Falaschi (sing). Rebirth in 2001 is characterized by the return of Power Metal. He was followed in 2004 by another success, Temple Of Shadows , and later by Aurora Consurgens (2006), which moved to the Progressive Metal. The group was put in hiatus in 2007 due to management problems and only returned in 2009 with drummer Ricardo Confessori. Aqua, in 2010, is a new concept album inspired by Shakespeare's play La Tempête. In 2012, it was the turn of Edu Falaschi to leave the band, who found a third voice with Fabio Lione ( Rhapsody Of Fire), then drummer Ricardo Confessori in 2014, replaced by Bruno Valverde. Secret Garden, released in early 2015, is the latest album with founding member Kiko Loureiro, going to join Megadeth. Ømni appeared in February 2018, recorded with guitarist Marcelo Barbosa (Almah , Khallice ).
