Amon Amarth
Biography
Formed in 1988 as Scum, it was in 1992 that the group took the name of Amon Amarth, meaning Mont du Destin in Sidarin, a language invented by J. R. R. Tolkien. With the desire to create a Death influenced by Viking imagery and mythology, their music becomes epic and melodic. Very quickly the training enters the studio to record their first demo: Thor Arise (never released due to sound problems) which will be followed shortly afterwards by a second named The Arrival Of The Fimbul Winter. This allows them to sign on the Pulverized Records label, where they will record their first ep Sorrow Throughout The Nine Worlds with Peter TÃĪgtgren ( Hypocrisy). The band then signed on Metal Blade Records label, more important, to release their first real album Once Sent From The Golden Hall in 1998, still with the same producer. In 1999, after line-up stabilization, the band produced a new album, The Avenger , which was followed in 2001 by The Crusher , in 2002 by Versus The World , and in 2004 by The Fate Of Norns . These successive and quality outputs allow them to rise in power. Amon Amarth continued on big tours and released the DVD Wrath Of The Norsemen in 2006, in parallel with the album With Oden On Our Side. In 2008, the Swedish released Twilight Of The Thunder God, and three years later Surtur Rising, taking up little of their musical formula that had been working well for several years. April 2013, Amon Amarth announced a ninth album, entitled Deceiver of the Gods and released in June of the same year. In March 2015, the band announced the departure of their drummer Fredrik Andersson (Ex-Marduk ) and at the same time a new album is at the beginning of writing.
