Ov Sulfur Releases Emotional New Music Video for 'Wither'

Ov Sulfur is set to release their sophomore album, 'Endless', on January 16th via Century Media Records. The band, led by frontman Ricky Hoover, will embark on a new journey that blends black metal with deathcore and explores a surprising amount of melody.

The music video for the new single 'Wither' is now available to watch. This song marks a departure from the group's typical sound, as it features only clean vocals. The lyrics are dedicated to Ov Sulfur's grandparents, who sadly passed away.

Vocalist Ricky Hoover and guitarist/vocalist Chase Wilson share lead vocals on 'Wither', as they pay tribute to their loved ones in a unique way. For Chase, the song is a personal and emotional reflection on his grandparents' passing, while for Ricky, it's an opportunity to honor their memory through music.

In a statement, Chase explains that he felt compelled to create 'Wither' as a way to honor his family and process his emotions.

'I had a lot I wanted to say about my grandparents' passing, as I was very close to them and had a multitude of different emotions I needed to express,' he says. 'Ricky allowed me the honour of splitting singing duties on this song with him, as we joined each other in grief and mourning.

For Chase, the song is also deeply personal, evoking memories of his grandfather's aspirations to pursue a career in show business when alive. The music video features a voice clip from his late father, which serves as a poignant reminder of the music's significance.

Ricky Hoover also shares his thoughts on 'Wither', stating that it was inspired by the love and support he received from his grandmother during his childhood.

'My grandmother was the glue that held my family together,' he says. 'She was the strongest person I've ever known and had the ability to forgive those who wronged her, a quality I wish I had.'

The song's emotional lyrics capture Ricky's longing for his grandmother, who passed away while he still held out hope of seeing her again. He reflects on the struggle to cope with grief and the importance of holding onto cherished memories.

'The voicemails (of her wishing me a Merry Christmas or that she hopes I have a good show) were something I couldn't even force myself to listen to until the day I recorded this song,' he says. 'I sent all the ones I had into the studio prior to me going.'

With 'Wither', Ov Sulfur invites listeners on an intense emotional journey that bridges their deathcore heritage with the black metal and melody. It's a testament to their ability to transcend genre boundaries and forge a new sonic identity, one that will resonate with fans of the band as well as those exploring different musical landscapes.
